Precision Parts Manufacturing Company Finds That the Answers to Many of Its Machining Challenges Can Be Resolved with Doosan
Established in 1998 in Singapore, Perfect Team Engineering is a leading provider of machining services to major oil and gas Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs). Most of the company’s products are down-hole products such as safety valves and pump packers.
Success with the Very First Doosan Product Purchased
The company bought its first Doosan machine in 2009. According to Yu Thor Hock, Operations Manager at Perfect Team Engineering, “We did some testing with the Doosan PUMA 480XL heavy-duty turning center, cutting Ø13 3/8” threads with a clamping length of 25mm. During cutting the machine was very, very stable. The Doosan machine was extremely accurate, very powerful and required less maintenance than other machines in the shop. We were very happy with the results of this experiment and the performance of the PUMA 480XL.”
Doosan 5-Axis Machines Expand the Product Line While Reducing Process Times
“In the machining industry, your company should have at least one 5-axis machine,” said Mr. Yu. It can bring you a lot of business.” In 2015, Perfect Team Engineering wanted to increase their capacity for more complex parts, but did not have the equipment on the shop floor that could produce them effectively. Because of their success with the PUMA 480XL, they selected a Doosan VC 630/5AX.
“We wanted to use a 5-axis machine to reduce our machining processes,” said Mr. Yu. “We used other 3-and 4-axis machines, but they involved many processes to complete the part. But with 5-axis, we only need two processes to finish the whole component. This totally reduced lead-time, manpower and total production cost.”
Machining Very Hard Material Quickly without Sacrificing Precision
A new project came into the shop that required complex machining of very tough material. A DVF 5000 was selected because it could cut down on machining hours and downtime by eliminating multiple setups. “This time we did not even consider other brands, and stuck with buying Doosan,” said Mr. Yu. “The DVF 5000 we bought comes with the inspection feature. We especially like this function since we can check the dimensions with a Renishaw probe after machining the part.”
Experience Teaches That Doosan Adds Value to Machining Operations
Today, Perfect Team Engineering has about 42 machines on their shop floor. It should be no surprise that 80% of them are Doosan. “Doosan machines require less maintenance, and are very accurate and powerful,” Mr. Yu concluded. “I also think that the support of Doosan is very good; the reaction time is very sharp. This is why we are happy with Doosan machines.”
