OMGM Group is a high precision machining company based in Bologna, Italy that specializes in pharmaceuticals, medical, aerospace, crown caps, ceramic presses and so on. The company also manufactures parts for its own machines. The organization was founded in 1972 with a total staff of five people and has now grown to over 100 employees.

OMGM has used Doosan 5-axis machines since 2000, and they are very pleased with the latest generation that offers big improvements in production times and comes in a compact size. The DVF 5000 features a built-in 18,000 r/min spindle, allowing for high speed metal removal. It also comes standard with a 60-tool magazine, with options of up to 120 tools, to tackle complex parts without having to re-tool the machine each time.
“We have really diversified manufacturing needs, and the DVF 5000 lets us perform a variety of processes quickly with outstanding results,” Maurizio said. “For example, when making coffee machines, the parts are very small. Because the DVF 5000 gives us easy access, we noticed a big improvement in upload and download time.
“When compared with similar 5-axis machines from Japan and Italy, the DVF 5000 gives us the same level of precision and quality at a better value.”
Becoming Multi-Functional with the PUMA SMX
“To be honest, I don’t think we’ve yet to use our new PUMA SMX 3100S to full advantage,” Maurizio said. “It has been challenging because we didn’t have a lot of experience with a multifunction machine.”
The PUMA SMX 3100S is a roller linear guideway multifunction mill turn center that sports left and right opposing spindles. The tool magazine on its milling head has an 80-tool capacity but has an optional tool capacity of up to 120 tools. It also sports rapid traverse rates of 1,890 IPM(=>change to global unit), a 30% larger Y-axis travel and 0.0001 degree indexing on the B-axis and main C-axis spindle. With a total of nine axes, there is essentially no limit to what you can create.
